The Language, Ideology and Power at BULING reading/research group (LIP) was founded by Özgür Deniz Akdemir in 2026. Taking inspiration from the namesake group at Lancaster University, we focus on the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) framework developed by Norman Fairclough.

LIP@BULING was established to fill a pedagogical gap, offering a critical alternative to the heavily theoretical and generative-focused curriculum of the Boğaziçi Linguistics BA program. We aim to build an understanding of CDA, and encourage our peers (in interdisciplinary fields of CDA) to read, understand, and output research of this field. We meet every Tuesday at 17.30 UTC+3.
